Local Spotlight: The Islands

Weekly Local Spotlight

Having been born & raised in Chittenden County & a top trusted name in real estate for over 39 years, I would like to continue our new series of spotlighting different local towns each week. Whether you’re looking to relocate to Vermont or explore your home state – I hope to provide great insight & resources.

The Islands

With so many unique, quintessential Vermont attractions along with stunning lake views visiting the Islands makes a great day trip for anyone! If you choose to visit Grand Isle, North Hero, or South Hero this summer, which I recommend, there are countless activities you can still enjoy while following proper social distancing guidelines.

Hero’s Welcome

Located in North Hero, this iconic old General Store has everything you could want between the gift shop, deli & the rentals. During the summer they offer rentals on Kayaks, Canoes, Bikes, Paddle Boats & more. Grab a sandwich from their deli & you are ready to enjoy a day on the lake!

Parks & Beaches

What better social distancing activity in the summer than going to the beach? The islands have some amazing beaches. Whether you are looking for a day trip to the beach or to camp for the weekend at Grand Isle State Park – they have something for everyone with views that won’t disappoint!

Allenholm Farm

Allenholm Farm in South Hero is great to visit all year long! Their Maple Creemees & Farm Store with delicious baked goods are always worth a stop. They also provide bike rentals which is a great way to explore the islands. They even provide guided routes! Fall will be here before we know it & you’ll want to enjoy those nice warm fall days before winter comes. Allenholm offers apple picking in the fall which along with their petting zoo makes a great fall family outing.

Outdoor Eateries

The Islands have some great outdoor eateries to enjoy a good meal while social distancing. A family favorite is Seb’s Snack Bar in South Hero.  With outdoor order windows & following the 6ft guidelines, Seb’s is a great option for a meal while up in the islands. Whether its enjoying an ice cream, exploring their unique gift shop or Bakery  – Seb’s makes for a great stop!
